You Are My Sunshine - Adding Warmth and Texture with Fabric and Felt

Image
On cool, rainy days, I'm a sucker for layers. I layer on sweaters, blankets, and it's no exception when I craft. I like to layer on piles of pretty fabric, felt and ribbons and never tire of the wonderful texture layers create.  Here are a couple creations that will hopefully brighten rainy days, and keep hearts cozy.   For the little tag, I used the Tag Sale #4 die , a felt bow, some ribbon, a couple of banners and a couple of tiny hearts. I love the way the felt adds texture to this tag, and the vibrant colors make me so happy on a rainy day! For the card, I used some Basic Grey fabric, and a patch die to cut out the little patches.  After assembling the patches, I added a couple of different patterned papers too, to break up the bold print.  For the little hearts, I used a texture paste embossing technique with this gorgeous Tim Holtz stencil (more info in this  post ) and a hand dyed ribbon.  At the bottom, I added a little journalling card for the sen...

Treats and Thanks You's - Make your own DIY Shaker without Shaker Dies

Hi Friends! Thanks for joining me today. I've got a batch of sweet creations to share with you, inspired by Summertime festivities - in particular - my favorite thing ever - carnivals! I love the sights, sounds, and the aroma of all the deelish, and terribly bad-for-you food - my favorite being cotton candy! It reminds me of my childhood and rides on the merry-go-round and yoyo. Oh to be a kiddo again!  It's been a while since I've visited the fair, but these last few days the exhibition has been in town and we've driven by a few times, and it just got me thinking about whipping up some cards inspired by the pretty colors and sights. So without further ado, here are a few little treat baggies inspired by all the marvel that carnivals bring!  The first treat baggie is actually a card, with a glassine front, that can be filled with sweet confections of all sorts. I added the two straws because I thought they would make a cute way to display a little treat - one that can b...

Happy Wishes - Beaded Embellishment Tutorial

Image
Okay so you may have noticed, I've been loooooving all things beads lately! And I've found yet another way to love them even more.  I don't know if you remember this post a little while back, with the little beaded heart on a popsicle? Well I've been meaning to try the same technique but with beads, so today's card does just that! I started this card with cardstock background and some confetti paper on the top portion of the card, and some gingham on the bottom. I then added a rosette stamp, and a die-cut doily from Papertrey Ink's Doily Details die.  Just above that, I added a fluffy bow and a coordinating button.  For the heart, I used the same technique as in this post .  And for the itty bits, I used a collection of glass beads, tiny felt hearts, and tiny cardstock diecuts.  I am sooo in love with how this little heart looks.  It's hard to tell in a photo, but it sparkles and shines so beautifully when the card is held. I can't wait to make more! Ju...

With Love For You - Layers and Beaded Details

I was so inspired by all the red accents of last week's card. I just love how it looks against an all-pastel background! I think this is a new favorite combo for me. And I've been loving playing with beads and different textures lately. It's been a fun way to add a little bit of sparkle and detail, when sequins just won't do.  This little card is a just-because creation, so I'm adding it to the shoppe, and you can find it right here !  To create this card, I stamped a variety of flowers using the Shower Flower stamp set from CTMH. I used Spring Rain, Saffron Spice, Ripe Avocado, Pale Peony, Pinefeather, and Lovely Lady from Papretrey Ink's lovely lineup of colors . After assembling the florals, I added a chipboard accent to the top, along with a patterned paper cutout flower for a bold, red kick. Just around the leaves, I added a few pink and white sequins.   For the sentiment, I used PTI's Stitched Sentiments stamp set, stamped in Pure Poppy.  Just below, ...
